This past summer, I made two dressers for me and my husband. We have shared one dresser ever since I came to America (I'm from Korea as you can tell from my blog name) because we only lived in studios before we bought a house. Now, we have own our bedroom and don't have to save any space for other stuff. So I decided to have two dressers and make them by myself! How To Build A Dresser From Scratch 1. Planning I started by planning what color I wanted for the dressers, what color door knobs or pulls I wanted, how many drawers I would need, and how big the dresser should be. Since our room color is a warm-tone white, I wanted the drawers to be a cool-tone white to contrast with the wall. I also wanted the top to be a natural wood color to give a little warmth so it didn't look too cool. Door knob color was easy to pick because all the hardware in our room was gold. So I wanted them to be gold too to match. For the size, I didn't really have a choice because our room has...

My kitchen has been fully renovated for about 8 months now. I gutted everything out and re-built everything myself. I still can't believe I did that and I'm so proud of myself.
The last touch before officially finishing the kitchen was getting curtains. I considered getting shades at first, but shades don't go all the way up and I wanted to get full sunlight by opening curtains horizontally.
When I was looking for curtains, I realized regular curtains were too long to hang for my kitchen window because of the sink and countertops. So I searched what kind of curtains people use for the kitchen and I learned about cafe curtains.
Cafe curtains are shorter than regular ones and are usually used to partially cover the window(mainly the bottom). So the idea of cafe curtains is that you can get sunlight and have some privacy at the same time.
They are called cafe curtains because back in the day, a lot of cafes had curtains to cover the lower part of the window so that customers could have some privacy and still get sunlight inside.
That's why cafe curtains are usually used in the bathroom or kitchen in a regular house.
So I looked through so many cafe curtains on Amazon and found one that I liked.
I didn't hang the curtains the way they are usually hung (covering the bottom of the window) though. It was because I wanted to cover the whole window. Our house is pretty close to our neighbor's and our kitchen can be seen from their second floor. I know that because I could see them from our second floor(houses on our street are the same style). So If I want get some sunlight into my kitchen, I have to open the curtains. It is a little annoying but it became kind of my morning routine before starting my day.
The color options were White, Beige, Blue, Charcoal Gray, Grey, Orange, Sage Green, and Tan. I purchased White and Grey to see which one would be better for my kitchen. I really liked both individually but white looked much better. The Grey one stood out a little and didn't really fit with the kitchen. As you can see from the picture above, my kitchen has an off-white color for the wall(HGSW Timeless White), white subway tile backsplash, and light grey cabinets(it has a little blue tone too). The white curtains look more natural with the wall and backsplash.
The white is not really white-white. It's pretty white at night time under the 5000K ceiling light, but close to Ivory during the day time. The window trim is real white and you can see how different the curtains are compared to the trim.
They are light-filtering curtains, but offer pretty good enough privacy too. I love the cute tasseled edges and the boho stitching. Those make the curtains not too boring, but still simple enough and that is exactly what I wanted! If you are looking for a minimalist but stylish curtain for your kitchen or bathroom, I think these are one of the good choices.
After reading this post I hope you consider cafe curtains for your space and see you at the next post!
